This bag will be transported by horses throughout the trek to each campsite providing convenient access to your items. This service allows for comfortable hiking with only a daypack. Upon returning to Cusco duffle bags can be left at our office.
  • Private Transport to Soraypampa: Private transportation from Cusco to Soraypampa (approximately 12795 feet / 3900 meters) the trek’s starting point is included. The journey in a tourist vehicle takes approximately 3 hours offering a comfortable and direct transfer. Upon arrival in Soraypampa you will meet the support team to begin the trek.
  • Meals During the Trek: The 5-day Salkantay Trek includes a comprehensive meal plan consisting of 5 breakfasts 4 lunches and 4 dinners prepared by experienced chefs who accompany the group. Vegetarian vegan and other special dietary options are available upon request. Daily snacks are also provided each morning. Meals are prepared with fresh high-quality nutritious ingredients to support energy levels throughout the trek.
  • Accommodation: Accommodation for the trek includes one night in panoramic glass star domes two nights in panoramic cabins and one night in a hostel in Aguas Calientes (approximately 6693 feet / 2040 meters). Mattresses and pillows are provided at each campsite. Participants need to bring their own sleeping bag or rent one from us. Accommodations are typically set up for two people but can comfortably accommodate three to four individuals if requested by a group.
  • Cooking Team: A dedicated team of chefs is responsible for preparing all meals along the Salkantay Trek route. They are skilled in accommodating various dietary needs including vegetarian vegan and lactose-free options ensuring all participants receive appropriate nutrition.
  • Kitchen Equipment and Utensils: All necessary kitchen equipment and utensils for meal preparation and serving are provided and transported to each campsite by the support team ensuring optimal dining conditions.
  • Muleteers and Horses: A team of muleteers and horses is included to transport all camping equipment food supplies and other necessary loads along the Salkantay Trail. Horses also carry participants’ duffle bags (up to 7 kg per person including sleeping bags) allowing for comfortable hiking with a light daypack.
  • Hostel Stay in Aguas Calientes: A night in a comfortable hostel in Aguas Calientes is included. These hostels offer private bathrooms hot showers and Wi-Fi access with options for double and triple occupancy providing a relaxing environment to rest before visiting Machu Picchu.
  • Machu Picchu Ticket: The trek price includes an entry ticket to Machu Picchu (approximately 7972 feet / 2430 meters). The standard option is Circuit 2: Llaqta Machu Picchu / Classic Route 2-A which covers approximately 70% of the citadel including the iconic panoramic viewpoint. If this circuit is unavailable Circuit 2-B: Lower Terrace offering the classic viewpoint and access to 60% of Machu Picchu will be booked. Booking 3 to 4 months in advance is recommended to secure one of these circuits. Alternative circuits providing access to specific areas of Machu Picchu will be selected if the preferred options are not available.
  • Machu Picchu Guided Tour: A scheduled 2-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu led by an expert guide is included. This immersive tour is tailored to the entry time and designated circuit on your ticket enhancing your understanding of the historical site. Following the guided tour 30 minutes of personal time is allocated to further appreciate Machu Picchu’s beauty.
  • Return Trip Options from Machu Picchu: Two return options from Machu Picchu are available: train or car.
    • Train Option: Typically the train ticket is scheduled for 2:30 PM 2:55 PM or 3:20 PM depending on availability. The train station can be reached by a one-hour walk or a $12 bus ride. Time will be available to explore Aguas Calientes have lunch and relax before the train departure. Arrive at the train station at least 30 minutes prior to departure. The train journey to Ollantaytambo (approximately 9160 feet / 2792 meters) takes about 1.5 hours. Upon arrival a transfer will be waiting to transport you by car back to Cusco a 2-hour drive with drop-off at Plaza Regocijo around 6:30 PM.
    • Car Option: This option involves a 3-hour hike from Machu Picchu to the hydroelectric station (approximately 5906 feet / 1800 meters) starting no later than 11:00 AM. The hike includes a 30-40 minute descent followed by approximately 1.5 to 2 hours of flat walking along the train tracks. Arrival at the hydroelectric station should be by 2:30 PM to catch the 3:00 PM car. The car journey back to Cusco takes around 6 to 7 hours arriving at approximately 10:00 PM with the final stop at Plaza Regocijo in central Cusco.
  • Free Storage Service: We offers complimentary storage for extra luggage at their main office in Cusco (near Plaza de Armas) for clients who book the tour. The storage is accessible daily from 4:30 AM to 10:00 PM including Sundays. Access outside these hours is not permitted for security reasons.
  • Vegetarian and Vegan Dining: Vegetarian and vegan meal options are available at no extra cost. Other dietary restrictions including gluten-free can also be accommodated. Inform us of your preferences during the reservation process.
  • Emergency Provisions: Guides carry essential emergency supplies including an oxygen bottle and a fully stocked first aid kit to provide immediate assistance in case of any urgent situations during the trek.

No Included

  • Humantay Lagoon Entrance Ticket: A visit to Humantay Lagoon (approximately 13910 feet / 4240 meters) on the first day requires an entrance ticket costing 20 soles for foreigners (approximately 6 dollars) and 10 soles for Peruvians (approximately 3 dollars). Payment must be made in soles and in cash at the lagoon entrance.
  • Sleeping Bag: Sleeping bags suitable for mountain temperatures (up to 10 degrees below zero) can be rented for 10 dollars for the entire trek if you do not have your own.
  • Trekking Poles: Professional adjustable trekking poles can be rented for 10 dollars for the entire trek. These are particularly useful on steep and uneven terrain.
  • Santa Teresa Hot Springs: On the third day after lunch and free time an optional visit to the Santa Teresa hot springs is available. Transportation from the Lucmabamba campsite takes about an hour by car and costs approximately 40 soles (15 soles each way for transport and 10 soles for the entrance fee). Payment is made on-site.
  • Drinking Water for Bottles: While water is provided for hot and cold drinks during meals refilling water bottles is not included. Bottled mineral water can be purchased at small shops along the trail (prices range from 5 to 12 soles per 2.5-liter bottle) or you can use a water filter or purification tablets for mountain water.
  • Internet Connection: Cell signal is unavailable from 9 AM on the first day until the second campsite where Wi-Fi is available for 10 soles. After the third day cell signal and internet access are generally available.
  • Showers and Toilets Along the Trail: Toilets at campsites are free however locals may charge 1 sol for using their facilities along the route. Hot showers are available at the second campsite for 10 soles while cold showers are free. Hot showers are also available at the Aguas Calientes hostel on the fourth day. Showers are generally not available at the first campsite due to low temperatures.
  • Tips: Tipping is optional but customary in the tourism industry in Cusco.
  • Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is not included and it is recommended to obtain it in your home country as it can be difficult to acquire in Peru.
